Daejeon Metropolitan City is accelerating the implementation of its municipal administration by reviewing the action plans for 77 pledged projects across seven sectors, which embody the vision and mid-to-long-term development strategy of the 9th elected administration.
At the weekly business meeting held on the 24th, Daejeon City reviewed the progress of pledged projects totaling 8.8489 trillion won and discussed detailed implementation plans to restore people's livelihoods and secure future growth engines.
Since its inauguration, Daejeon City has finalized its top 10 core pledges following communication with the Daejeon Mayoral Transition Committee and internal reviews. Key initiatives include promoting a "Better Ontong Daejeon 2.0," establishing a hub for the AI semiconductor and advanced sensor industries, fostering 2,000 high-tech venture companies, building an integrated platform for youth employment, establishing an integrated platform for citizen participation, elevating the Daejeon Bread Festival to a representative national festival, expanding the seating capacity of Hanwha Life Eagles Park by 3,000, reforming the Daejeon-style emergency medical system, establishing a 24/7 childcare system, and pushing for the full establishment of Daejeon Medical Center.
The implementation plan for these pledges will be finalized next month following the collection of opinions from the policy advisory group, and will be disclosed in detail to citizens through a vision proclamation ceremony.
At the meeting, Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jeong emphasized the importance of tangible participation that citizens can experience. Daejeon City plans to build an integrated citizen participation platform linking "Daejeon Siso," an online citizen proposal channel, with the participatory budgeting system, and begin full-scale operation next year.
Measures to revitalize the local economy will also be pursued. With the Chuseok holiday coming up this September and the year-end approaching, the city plans to provide substantial assistance to small business owners and the working-class economy by further enhancing the cashback benefits of the local currency, "Ontong Daejeon 2.0."
Measures to expand the startup ecosystem and provide housing support to encourage young people to settle in the region were also presented. The city plans to consolidate technology startup spaces such as Tipstown and Startup Park, and for the project to supply 5,000 youth housing units, it will actively invest city funds to improve spatial configurations to increase actual satisfaction among young people, going beyond simply achieving numerical targets.
In addition, the city intends to establish an integrated youth employment platform to create an AI-based customized job support infrastructure, while also developing diversified policies, such as support for out-of-school youth, through frequent consultations with the Office of Education.
To enhance transportation convenience for citizens, the public bicycle fleet of "Tashu" will be expanded by an additional 1,442 units, improving the ratio of users per bicycle from the current 238 to 192, and management discipline will be strengthened by efficiently utilizing redeployed personnel. In addition, he ordered the speedy execution of major pending issues, including the preemptive identification of sites and available spaces in preparation for the second phase of the relocation of government public institutions, the expansion of small-scale cultural and artistic performance and exhibition spaces, and the promotion of the designation of a distributed energy special zone.
Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jeong stated, “Based on the review and re-evaluation of projects to date, it is now time to responsibly push forward with the pledges of the 9th popular election,” and urged, “Please produce results quickly so that citizens can feel the changes in administration.”
