대전시가 지역 종교계와 협력하여 자살을 예방하고 생명존중 문화를 지역사회 전반으로 확산하기 위한 민관 합동 생명안전망 구축에 나섰다.

대전광역자살예방센터와 지역 종교계 4개 기관은 28일 옛 충남도청 소회의실에서 ‘자살 예방 및 생명존중 문화 조성을 위한 공동 업무협약’을 체결했다.

이번 협약에는 대전광역자살예방센터를 필두로 대전광역시 기독교연합회, 대전성시화운동본부, 천주교 대전교구, 원불교 대전충남교구 등 대전 지역 4대 종교 단체가 뜻을 모아 참여했다.

종교기관은 주민들의 일상과 밀접하게 맞닿아 있어 고위험군을 가장 먼저 발견할 수 있는 생활밀착형 거점이다. 대전시는 이러한 종교계의 그물망 네트워크를 자살 예방 활동과 연계해 사각지대를 해소하고자 이번 협약을 마련했다.

협약에 따라 참여 기관들은 생명존중 캠페인 및 자살 예방 교육을 한층 강화하고, 주변의 극단적 선택 위험징후를 조기에 포착해 전문 상담 및 치료 기관으로 신속히 연계하는 데 적극 협력하기로 했다. 이와 함께 생명 가치를 고취하기 위한 공동 사업을 발굴하고 상호 교류를 지속적으로 넓혀갈 계획이다.

대전시는 그동안 종교계 간담회, 부활절 생명존중 캠페인, 번개탄 생명사랑 스티커 부착 사업 등을 함께 전개해 왔다. 시는 이번 다자간 협약을 발판 삼아 지역 종교계와의 협력 범위를 대폭 확대하고, 생명을 소중히 여기는 사회적 분위기를 정착시켜 나갈 방침이다.
